I love when these really “adult” coloring books make me smile and offer something beautiful to work on. And this book does a great job. The illustrations are intricate, elegant and beautifully executed. The phrases are sassy and smart (as these things go). I love the gorgeous apple annotated with “Bite Me,” for example.
The luxurious beauty of the designs are part of the humor, as they are paired with rather crass, inelegant messages. The publishers nicely sum up the concept: “Color the things you can’t say.”
There are 21 illustrations to color, plus 2 test pages for checking how your pens and markers will do with the paper. The designs are printed on one-sided pages and are moderate to difficult in their complexity and detail. They offer a lot of variety with flowers, animals, people, doodles and fairies. Each is paired with a delightfully spunky phrase (not necessarily with swear words), including “Home is where the vodka is,” “Dance like no one attractive is watching” and “Suck it up buttercup.” It’s is (mostly) more irreverent than crude and rude.
So, this book is a winner and perhaps one of the best in the genre. It’s beautiful and interesting to color. It’s sassy and funny. If you are the sort of person to be reading a review of a book with this title, I’m pretty sure you’ll find it entertaining and enjoyable. It’s really a pleasure to see, read and color.
